Environmental Science and Societies (IA researches)

These last days, Environmental Science and Societies students from 2nd Diploma are working hard on their IA researches. This type of research is fundamental for the students to get in touch with the reality of all the concepts explained during the course. They can see with their own eyes the effects of acid rain on the growth of plants, or the increase of Green House gases released after food decomposition.

With this type work they finish to connect all the dots between the different units studied throughout the course and it’s fundamental for them to make those connections to prepare for the final exam. We are very proud of how hard they are working!

LAB experience (ESS-DP)

Students have gone today to the laboratory to model feedback loops using basic laboratory equipment (beakers, thermometer, hot plate, water and ice) This type of experiments allow them to understand how real ecosystems work in the real world and how can all pieces on Earth keep in equilibrium even though they suffer alterations such as volcanic eruptions, heavy storms or periods of extreme drought.

Sampling strategies and soil quality in the school forest

First IB ESS students are learning to perform different sampling techniques in the school’s forest. This will help them understanding how ecologists perform the analysis of the different organisms that live in certain areas so us analyze the quality of the soil. All this experiments are fundamental to understand the subject and perform their IA next

1st of DP ESS students are analyzing water quality in the Congost River

1st of IB ESS students are analyzing water quality in the Congost River. This helps them understanding how to sample both water and soil and how to analyze water quality and determine the levels of contamination the earth is suffering. It will also help them for their IA next year.

SEK Catalunya candidates to the “Global Takes Action project” have been selected to take part

We are pleased to announce that all SEK Catalunya candidates to the Global Takes Action project have been selected to take part. Congratulations to you all.

The organisation has received over 250 candidacies from 25 states, and has messaged us to congratulate you all for being “absolutely among the most prepared and dedicated.” Also, you will see that this event might  become a pre-COP26 event (UN Climate Change Conference).

The first preliminary online meeting took place on the 5th February.

Congratulations!!!
