Two DP students selected to participate in the International Session of European Youth Parliament EYP/2021 (Belgium and Albania)

“We are so excited to go to Bilbao to represent the school for the national session of the EYP, where we will be encouraged to speak, defend, and represent our values and ideas in front of students from all Spain.” This is how we finished our last post on our journey in the European Youth Parliament. We now have returned from Bilbao after 4 days there, and we can certainly say that it has been a wonderful, very enriching experience. We have debated topics that ranged from health to culture and economics and, following the same procedure as in our last EYP session, we had to reach and defend a resolution. We have been able to foster our critical and independent thinking, not only through extensive debating, but also through meeting people from all across Spain with different cultural backgrounds. Beyond our experience, Alexandra Torres has been selected to go to an International Forum in Tirana, Albania. I, Nicolau San Millán, have been selected to represent Spain together with other 7 Spanish students in the International Session in Kortrijk, Belgium, the flagship event of the EYP that brings together about 300 young people from around 40 European countries for 9 days. Now, we are so excited to go to Tirana and Kortrijk to represent our school.

Candela Hernández has been admitted to «JOVES I CIÈNCIA» (Youngsters and Science)

When I found out I was admitted to the programme Joves i Ciència, my heart skipped a beat. I was very excited to get into this science summer course. This programme consists of an approach to the scientific investigation for three summers. This summer I will go to a summer camp with students from all over Catalonia. There we will participate in a research project with the help from some scientists. The other summers I will have the opportunity to go to a research centre and learn how scientists work there. I am really looking forward to this experience!

Sampling strategies and soil quality in the school forest

First IB ESS students are learning to perform different sampling techniques in the school’s forest. This will help them understanding how ecologists perform the analysis of the different organisms that live in certain areas so us analyze the quality of the soil. All this experiments are fundamental to understand the subject and perform their IA next

1st of DP ESS students are analyzing water quality in the Congost River

1st of IB ESS students are analyzing water quality in the Congost River. This helps them understanding how to sample both water and soil and how to analyze water quality and determine the levels of contamination the earth is suffering. It will also help them for their IA next year.

Marc Rovira, 1st year DP student, will participate in BIYSC in the summer

This summer I will have the brilliant opportunity to take part in one of the programs in the Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC), specifically in one called “Synthetic Biology: Engineering for a new life”. The participants of this course will design genetic devices for cell reprogramming. This project is not only a great source of information in the fields of engineering and genetics, but it is also a good preparation for our future, as it gives us a first person point of view of the working life, apart from improving our teamwork and work ethics, which is why it is so highly valued by universities around the globe. Furthermore, I have recently been told that other SEK alumni participated in previous editions of the BIYSC, and that all of them categorized it as a magnificent, enriching experience, so I am looking forward to partake in this project.
