Throughout the last 5 years I have participated in different maths or science programmes to satisfy my curiosity.
These programmes were Estalmat (its aim is to detect, orientate and encourage the exceptional mathematical talent of 25 students aged 12-13 from Catalonia), the International Summer School of Mathematics (a summer camp of 2 weeks with student from all around the globe held in Seville), being an Explainer in Cosmocaixa (where I was during the morning explaining the museum to its visitors), the Campus Físico-Matemàtic d’Estiu URV (consisting on two weekly conference about current scientific issues), Bojos per les Matemàtiques (weekly classes on different mathematical disciplines), Talent Jove (where I learn the contents of the IB Diploma Programme in Physics and Mathematics) and lastly, last summer, I participated in Joves per la Ciència (a summer camp of two weeks in which I learned about the universe while observing it).
As well as the many maths and science programmes I have taken part in, I have competed in many mathematical competitions. Some examples Provesy Canguri (where I have always achieved a score in the top 2.2% best scores), Fem Matemàtiques (where I was classified to participate in the final phase), the many online maths contests organised by the SCM.
This last years I have also participated in the Mathematics Olympiad of Catalonia. In order to perform well in these, I’m taking a course to learn how to solve this kind of problems. By Candela Hernandez
Yesterday, the ex-student Mariona Vidal came to school to give us a talk regarding the IB, the application to universities, and health sciences’ degrees. From a 2DP student’s point of view, the talk was very useful and interesting. Not only I got to learn about the planning and application to universities, but I also started growing interest in biomedical engineer due to her clear explanations of how the degrees worked.
Mariona graduated from the degree of human biology in the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF). She gave us an insight of how her university works, how the credit in university function, and all the experiences abroad she has lived. Throughout the talk, there was an interesting debate regarding subject combinations and the differences between degrees, and really had an impact on our choices when applying to university. We thank Mariona to come and use her free time to talk to us, answer to all our questions, and explain in detail how university life is. This process became a little less stressful than before.
